You''ve probably noticed that we''ve been getting a lot of spam lately. It built up over the last weekend because I was out of the office when it surged for one reason or another. My system to control the problem so far has been to ban spammers and delete their posts. Unfortunately, I think that my (non-automated) process is no longer keeping up.

As of yesterday, we were about a month behind on a forum software update. I updated the forum software, but unfortunately this morning there were still some new spam posts. I''ve read that the beta 2.0 version of this forum software is a little stronger against spam bots. If I can''t find an add-on or something to improve bot detection until 2.0 is out of beta, I''ll probably update.

We will work something out. Thank you for using the forum and I hope we can clamp this down soon.

I''ve had to revert the look-and-feel of the forum to the factory default to accommodate some new anti-spam plugins I''ve installed. The plugins have to be able to modify the page templates and using a non-standard look-and-feel interferes with that process. I''m sorry if the new look is uncomfortable for any return visitors.

It should be getting increasingly difficult for spam bots to register new accounts. I haven''t yet found an ideal solution for dealing with bots that already have accounts - other than actually deleting the accounts. We''ll keep working on it.
