Double quote substitution only happening on edit?
Right, computer science is an "engineering" degree
Edit: Maybe I need a single tick in there? Can''''''''t get a free lunch.

Messages are being saved with the duplicated ticks. Correcting within the database fixes the problem (for that message). It must be somewhere in the sanitizing code (Subs.php still seems like the right place?).
