A new release of Pathfinder (Beta) is now available for testing at:

http://www.thunderheadeng.net/download/pathfinder_20080710.exe

This updated version includes the following changes:

  • Fixed a non-determinism bug in the simulator.  The results were sensitive to the order in which boundary edges were being processed.
  • Fixed a bug that caused the main user interface to change the order of the adjacency calculation each time a PTH file was loaded.  This was causing small changes in the simulation results times.
  • Added -Dsun.java2d.noddraw when running the program to prevent flicker on some graphics cards
  • Fixed a bug that caused adjacent exit edges to be merged too aggressively.  In some situations, this caused occupants to attempt (unsuccessfully) to walk through a wall separating two exits.
  • Fixed a bug in trimming internal edges that was leading to occupants sometimes becoming stuck.
  • In the main user interface, changed the random seed to apply specifically to agent properties (preventing undesired random "steps" from being introduced).
  • In the main user interface, double-clicking a profile in the tree will now open the Edit Profiles dialog
  • Fixed a bug in the Add Agent tools that would cause new agents to sometimes be linked to profiles that no longer existed.
  • In reactive steering mode, added a time delay for the steering force re-calculation.  This made reactive steering simulations considerably faster (4x faster in some cases).
  • Improved the Background Image dialog and reduced the memory footprint of background images

We are planning a new release in about a month that should add some new visualization features (density shown on the floor, etc) and some new features in the main user interface.  The big goal of this release was to make it possible to reproduce any problems found by our testers.  That should make it a lot easier to chase down any bugs our beta testers identify.

Thank you very much to all of the beta testers that have been giving us such great feedback on the forum and via email.
