Hello,
I just started working with PyroSim. (I already read PyroSim, FDS and Smokeview User's Guide)
I have a problem with the slice heights in Smokeview.
I define the slices with PyroSim (e.g Z = 1.96 m). But when I want to load the slice in Smokeview, there is a slice with a different height. (e.g. Z = 1.83 m). When I define 4 different Z-slices, there are also 4 slices in Smokeview, but 2 or 3 of them have the same height, but not the one I defined.
What do I wrong?
I attach 2 pictures, to show the slices I defined and the slices Smokeview shows.

(I'm sorry for my English, I know it's not perfect.)
I hope you can help me!

Lena

Is it maybe only possible to place slices between meshes?
So if you have meshes in Z-direction about 0.5 m, you only can place meshes at 0.5, 1, 1.5, 2 and so on ?

My expectation was the same as yours - that with 0.5 m cells, a slice at 1.83 would appear in smokeview as a slice at 1.83 rather than 2.0. However, when I tested it, I got the same result as you. Evidently, FDS snaps the slice to the cell boundary. I asked around the office and everyone vaguely expected the same thing as us, but nobody had a specific memory of an earlier version keeping the slice at exactly the specified coordinate. Admittedly, it's possible that I've never tried to use a slice with finer numerical resolution than the mesh.

I don't think you are doing anything wrong. This appears to be an undocumented limitation of the simulator.
